Elgin church launches Peacemakers Club for kids

The Elgin Community of Christ recently announced the launching of a Young Peacemakers Club for all children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The Young Peacemakers Club began in 1992 with an all-volunteer staff and seven children in Sioux City, Iowa.

Since that time, Young Peacemaker's Clubs have started all over the world by people who believe that each life makes a difference.

The skills of peacemaking have been promoted by this global grass-roots effort to more than 120 countries in such diverse settings as schools, churches, homes, community centers, resettlement camps, and as a special focus in other existing organizations.

Through the Peacemakers Club, children will be offered a chance to:

Ÿ Imagine making a peaceful difference in the world as they learn how to help turn conflicts into opportunities and embrace the power to “Pass the Peace.”

Ÿ Explore the differences and similarities of the human family while discovering the rights of the world's children.

Ÿ Discover the joy and power of feelings, and the many peaceful choices for expressing those feelings while making “Squishies” or playing “Feeling Pictionary.”

John and Kate Kent will be leading this program.

They will meet twice a month; the start dates are Saturdays, Sept. 15 and 29 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. It will continue to meet the second and fourth Saturday of each month at the same times.

At each meeting, there will be dinner, activities and open gym at no cost.

The Elgin Community of Christ is located at 1675 E. Chicago St. (Route 19), one mile west of Route 59 in Elgin. For information, visit the YPC website at ypcchicago.webs.com and Community of Christ website at bymyspirit.us/elgin/welcome.html. Or contact John or Kate Kent at (847) 749-4055.
