State treasurer holds online property auction
More than 12,000 pieces of unclaimed property will be up for bid in the Illinois Treasurer's Online Unclaimed Property Auction, Sept. 17-21. To see items up for bid, visit www.treasurer.il.gov and click on “auction preview.”
Treasurer Dan Rutherford said all the auction items have been unclaimed for more than five years.
“You'll find anything from a diamond ring and a 24-carat gold butterfly pin to a 1934 $500 federal reserve note,” he said.
Buyers must use Visa or MasterCard to complete their purchase unless the price is more than $10,000.
A 2 percent administrative fee will be assessed.
People must register to become an active bidder.
