Several charity events on tap for the Fox Valley

If you want to help raise awareness for cancer in Huntley, mark your calendars for the 10th annual “You’re Not Alone 5K Cancer Walk.”

The walk will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, starting at the Sun City Fountain View Pavilion at Sun City, 12880 Del Webb Blvd., Huntley.

The Breast Cancer Support Hour Group in Sun City started the walk to raise awareness about cancer.

You can purchase raffle tickets for prizes and refreshments will be served after the walk.

The registration fee is $15.

Same day registration starts at 8:30 a.m.

Bike for Leukemia Research Foundation: The third annual Bikes for Boomer Motorcycle Ride is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, and will start at Rosie O’Hare’s Public House, 702 Water St., East Dundee, and end at Ray’s Evergreen, 1400 W. Main St., St. Charles.

The event benefits the Leukemia Research Foundation.

Registration is $20 per bike and $15 per passenger. Riders should meet at Rosie O’Hare’s at 9 a.m. for registration. The scenic ride will take place, rain or shine.

T-shirts will be available for $10 each. The post-ride celebration will be held at Ray’s Evergreen at 6 p.m.

Steak dinner in Carpentersville: The Carpentersville VFW Post #5915 Men’s Auxiliary is sponsoring a grilled steak dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the post, 301 Lake Marian Road, Carpentersville.

Besides steak, the dinner also includes a salad, baked potato, vegetables, a dinner roll, dessert and a beverage. The dinner costs $13 and tickets must be purchased in advance. You can buy tickets by calling the VFW at (847) 428-4836. The price goes up by $3 after Sept. 18.

Proceeds from the event will support the club and help it make contributions to local veterans and the community.

Penny social: The Carpentersville Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5915 is holding its annual penny social at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at the VFW in West Dundee at 117 South First St.

Admission is 50 cents and people are encouraged to buy raffle tickets and other tickets for table prizes. Proceeds from the event will benefit the local police department, the fire department, the Little League, the Boys and Girls Club, the homeless, the Community Crisis Center and other groups.
