Northwestern linebacker earns Big Ten honors
Northwestern linebacker Chi Chi Ariguzo earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts in the Wildcats’ win over Vanderbilt Saturday.
Big Ten officials also honored Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson, punter Cody Webster of Purdue and freshman Devin Funchess of Michigan for their play last weekend.
Chi Ariguzo, a sophomore from Gahanna, Ohio, had a career-best 10 tackles and 3 tackles for loss in Northwestern’s 23-13 victory over Vanderbilt. The Wildcats held Vanderbilt’s offense to just 101 yards rushing.
Robinson, a senior, won Offensive Player of the Week honors by accounting for 426 yards of total offense and 4 touchdowns (2 rushing, 2 throwing) in Michigan’s 31-25 victory over Air Force on Saturday. He finished with more than 200 yards rushing (218) and passing (208) to become the only player in FBS history to run and pass for 200 or more yards in the same game three times.
Webster, a junior from Harrisburg, Pa., took Special Teams honors by punting seven times for 303 yards, an average of 43.3 yards per punt, with a long of 55 yards against Notre Dame on Saturday. He placed six punts inside the Notre Dame 20-yard line.
Funchess, a tight end from Farmington Hills, Mich., earned Freshman of the Week honors by recording 4 catches for 106 yards and a touchdown in Michigan’s 31-25 victory over Air Force on Saturday.
