Palatine Oktoberfest is on this coming weekend

The Rotary Club of Palatine will host its fifth annual Oktoberfest Friday-Sunday, Sept. 14-16, in Fireman’s Memorial parking lot at Brockway and Slade in downtown Palatine.

The event is free and completely tented. Come for authentic German music, food and activities, from 4 p.m.-midnight Friday; noon-midnight Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.

Entertainment kicks off Friday with a traditional keg rolling ceremony at 5 p.m. complete with a “tapping of the firkin” by Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz. On Saturday, Family Day activities will be from noon to 3:30 p.m.

“Our family day is one of the highlights of the weekend,” said Oktoberfest co-chairwoman Cindy Stoeckel. On Sunday, the Rotary Club of Palatine will sell raffle tickets for the chance to win one of 23 baskets each valued at over $500.

“We have a great array of raffle baskets this year, Stoeckel said. Highlights including a Weber Genesis grill and various wine, liquor and merchant baskets. Tickets are $5 each or $20 for 5, and the drawing will be at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The event will have authentic German food from Bauer’s Brauhaus, as well as cuisine from Heybeck’s Meat Market, Morkes Chocolates and Tre Amici. Mugslingers will have coffee and smoothie creations. Beverages include Schofferhofer and Radenberger as well as a special Oktoberfest brew from The Onion Pub and Brewery in Barrington and a variety of wine.
