Artists converge on Palatine this weekend

The Palatine/Inverness Arts Council and the Palatine Jaycees present their eighth annual juried art fair, “An Art Affair Around the Square,” 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 8-9 in Towne Square, downtown Palatine at Smith Street and Palatine Road.

Artists in all mediums will be represented — water color, acrylic, oil, pottery, fine jewelry, stained glass and pastels.

“We are excited by the diversity of artists that have returned to the show this year and are impressed with the new talent participating in the show,” said Chrissy Trilling-Raices, chairwoman of the show. “This is a quality, juried art show presented as a celebration of all forms of art, from the traditional to the contemporary.”

Besides a wide range of art forms, the weekend show includes children’s art activities and live entertainment by local musicians. Musical artists Mary Lai, Just Duet, Gloria Burchfield, Guyz with Bad Eyez and Merv Collins will perform from the gazebo. On Sunday, from 2-5 p.m. Dobby’s Worldwide Liquors will provide a wine tasting.

The arts council is committed to the cultural, educational and economic growth of the members of our communities through support and encouragement of performing and visual arts and artists. According to council President Bill Pohlman, the council believes in the preservation of our cultural heritage and a responsible stewardship of community resources.
