Second annual Mundelein Fine Arts Festival set for Sept. 8-9

The second annual Mundelein Fine Arts Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, and Sunday, Sept. 9. The juried art festival will showcase the talents of more than 40 professional artists and craftspeople working in a variety of media including drawing and painting, photography, jewelry, fiber art and glass.

The Fine Arts Festival will be at Kracklauer Park, 100 N. Seymour Ave., downtown Mundelein. Admission is free.

Artists’ booths will be in the paved area for easy access by visitors, and plenty of free parking is available across the street.

Local musicians and professional performers will add to the festivities with entertainment on each day, and Mundelein-area restaurants will offer a variety of tasty food and beverages for sale.

In additional to the professional artists, Mundelein Fine Arts Festival will highlight artwork by select students from Mundelein and Carmel Catholic high schools.

To further encourage the arts, the festival will make a donation of $1,000 to each school to provide scholarship money for deserving local art students.

Highlights include:

ŸAT&T-U-Verse TV will sponsor two live art performances. On Sept. 8, nationally recognized fashion illustrator Rosemary Fanti will capture the arts festival in motion. On Sept. 9, award-winning illustrator and muralist Paul Niemeyer will demonstrate his work with colorful renditions of the arts festival.

ŸYoung artist Erica Wagner, a recipient of one of last year’s scholarships, will have her own booth this year to showcase her handmade jewelry, oil paintings and book cover art. Last year Erica, a senior at Mundelein High School, displayed her oil paintings and drawings in the student exhibit. She was one of several MHS students to receive scholarship money from the festival. She plans to attend the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.
