Emanuel seeks to give inside look into Obama

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel sought to give an inside look into President Barack Obama's administration Tuesday, telling the Democratic National Convention that his fellow Democrat reads 10 letters from average people every day.

Emanuel served as Obama's first chief of staff and tried to contest the Republican argument that the country is worse off now than four years ago by painting a picture of the crises that have faced his former boss.

“You remember the uncertainty and the fear that seized our country,” Emanuel said.

The mayor told the convention that there wasn't a book on how to deal with the financial crisis.

“Believe me, if it existed, I would have found it,” he said.
