80-year-old woman found dead in NW Indiana pond

VALPARAISO, Ind. — Authorities say an 80-year-old woman was found dead in a pond near her northwestern Indiana home after she was reported missing by family members.

State conservation officers say a police helicopter crew spotted Ethel Bottom’s body floating in the water near Valparaiso a couple hours into the search on Monday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members told investigators that Bottoms had dementia and was last seen going to bed Sunday night.
