Wheeling man charged with sexually assault of 11-year-old

A Wheeling man has been charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, after he admitted he inappropriately touched an 11-year old boy, police said.

The boy came forward on Aug. 12 and later gave a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Hoffman Estates, where police say he named the suspect and said the man performed numerous sex acts with him.

Charles Vallas, 64, of the 700 block of Elmwood Lane in Wheeling, voluntarily came to the Wheeling Police Department on Aug. 29 and gave both written and verbal confessions of engaging in various sex acts with the boy, said Deputy Chief John Teevans.

He added that Vallas had no criminal background and there is no evidence that any other children were involved.

Vallas was charged with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault — a class X felony.

Bond for Vallas was set at $250,000 on Thursday. He will next appear in the Rolling Meadows courthouse at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 20.

Teevans said the family is working to get a protective order against Vallas if he posts bond and is released pending trial.
