Toni Preckwinkle to be at Barrington Hills polo match

Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County Board president, will throw out the first ball in the eighth annual LeCompte Kalaway Landowners Cup polo match in Barrington Hills on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Each year the Barrington Hills Polo Club in conjunction with the Riding Club of Barrington Hills hosts the event conceived as a way to honor the private homeowners in Barrington Hills, who allow riding trails across their property.

These private trails link up with Cook County Forest Preserve trails to form a network of nearly 200 miles of bridle paths through the community.

According to event chairman Linda Adair, “Since Cook County is our largest single landowner with riding trails, it is particularly fitting that Toni Preckwinkle should throw out the first ball.”

The LeCompte Kalaway Landowner’s Cup is the largest single polo event in the Midwest, attracting between 2,000 and 3,000 spectators each year. It will take place Saturday, Sept. 8, at Bateman and Deepwood roads in Barrington Hills.

In addition to two exciting polo matches, other attractions include the famous Lake Run Clydesdales giving rides in the big red “beer” wagon, a parade of foxhounds from the Fox River Valley Hunt, a Pony Club Quadrille and a Midway packed with artists, clothiers and other vendors. This year’s event will also commemorate the Riding Club of Barrington Hills’ 75th anniversary.

Barrington Hills is a unique equestrian community that strives to maintain its natural environment, open spaces and rural character. The LeCompte Kalaway Landowners Cup polo matches have become a unifying event attracting both horse people and non-horse people alike to enjoy the equestrian character of the community.
