Jewish community buries 4 tons of articles in Geniza ceremony
In preparation for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, Weinstein Funeral Home and Piser Funeral Services sponsored a Geniza ceremony at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie on Wednesday, Aug. 22.
At this Jewish ritual, 4 tons of used books, clothing and other items donated by members of the community were buried in a sacred place to benefit both the community and future generations.
Young adults from Keshet participated in the ritual by assisting with the burial of the donated items. Keshet is a leading provider of educational, recreational, vocational and social programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
