Lombard to host annual Recycling Extravaganza Sept. 29

LOMBARD, Illinois—The Village of Lombard's annual Recycling Extravaganza will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place at the Lombard Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Avenue, Lombard.

“The Environmental Concerns Committee (ECC) is proud to once again host this great recycling event,” said Trustee Laura Fitzpatrick, Chair of the ECC. “Recycling has become important in our community and events that provide safe and convenient sites to recycle these items are now a standard in Lombard,” she added.

The following materials will be accepted for recycling: electronics, car and marine batteries, scrap metal (bent hangers, old metal pots, swing sets, lawn furniture, gutters, washers and dryers, stoves, hot water heaters and dishwashers) and books of all types. Several other community organizations will also be collecting items for recycling or reuse at the Extravaganza. Goodwill Industries will collect used clothing in any condition; Family Shelter Services will collect used cell phones and accessories; Lions Club will collect eyeglasses, hearing aids and old metal keys; Glenbard East Ecology Club will collect indoor and outdoor flower pots (no plastic, please); Rotary Club will collect bicycles, crutches, non-motorized wheelchairs and gently used shoes (no high heels, please) and VFW members will collect damaged American flags. Again this year,

everyone is encouraged to “rescue” books.
