West Dundee teen earns Eagle Scout award

Kevin Dispensa, son of Randy and Janie Dispensa of West Dundee, reached the pinnacle of Scouting when he earned his Eagle Scout award. Kevin, 18, is a member of Troop 32 in West Dundee. He attends Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville.
Along the way to the Eagle Scout rank, Kevin has earned numerous badges and won second place in the district’s Pinewood Derby when he was a Cub Scout. His Eagle Scout project was a cleaning and planting project at Raceway Woods in Carpentersville. With the help of Kirby Dowlat and Sue Hainey, both from Dundee Township, they cleaned out invasive plants and brush and planted prairie grass. They also built three Aldo Leopold benches for Raceway.
Kevin hopes to stay in his troop as an assistant scoutmaster and attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with an environmental major.
Since beginning as a Tiger Cub in 2001, Kevin’s most memorable camping trip was to Eagle Cove, Wis. He said the Scouts could climb on anything and go into anything they could fit into.
Scouting has taught him how to be a leader and a responsible individual. “It’s taught me what it means to be an adult and how to work hard for success in life,” Kevin said.
