Public hearing on Wheeling police reaccreditation

The Wheeling Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment this month as part of it’s professional reaccreditation and will hold a public hearing for input.

Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas; policy and procedure, administration, operations and support services.

The on-site assessment will begin on Monday, Aug 27 and continue through Thursday, Aug. 30.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the public are invited to offer comments at a public information hearing.

The hearing will take place at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29 in the board room at 2 Community Boulevard, Wheeling.

Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling (847) 459-2604 on Wednesday, Aug. 29 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Comments will be taken by the assessment team. Written statements can also be sent directly to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suit 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public hearing are limited to 10 minutes and must address the department’s ability to comply with CALEA standards.
