Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital cuts jobs

Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital says it has laid off about 230 employees over the past month in an effort to reduce costs.

The hospital said in a statement Wednesday that the layoffs included managers. The hospital employs about 7,000 people.

The statement says the hospital is trying to cut costs by 25 percent over the next five years, while still investing in research and expanding access to clinical care.

It says 52 of those who lost jobs have since found new positions within Northwestern Memorial or elsewhere.
