Algonquin police are asking parents to speak with their children about safety after a man approached a girl and asked her if she wanted a ride home Tuesday afternoon.

Police said a man in a vehicle approached the child at the intersection of Barrett and Broadsmore drives about 3:45 p.m.

The girl described the vehicle as an older model dark red or maroon minivan with small wheels and rust spots on the body.

The suspicious person was described as a black man possibly in his 20s or 30s who was bald with a clean-shaven face, according to police.

The girl fled the scene. Anyone with information that can lead to the identity of the driver is asked to call police at (847) 658-4531.
