Kiwanis of Palatine seeks help for peanut sale
The Kiwanis Club of Palatine will hold its annual Peanut Day fundraiser Friday, Sept. 28, and Saturday, Sept. 29.
From early morning Friday until Saturday afternoon, Kiwanis members, along with family and friends, will be on street corners and in shopping centers throughout the area to sell their trademark peanuts. The goal is to raise money for dozens of local charities and youth groups.
The organizations Kiwanis supports will be helping in this communitywide effort.
Soccer moms and dads, parents of young baseball players and the Builders Club of Walter R. Sundling Junior High School will ask local citizens for contributions. The bag of peanuts is the Kiwanis way of saying “thank you.”
Many local merchants aid the effort by underwriting the cost of peanuts. By contributing the cost of a box of peanuts to the club, they can offset the expenses of the fundraising effort, making it one of the most efficient charity funds in existence.
The Palatine Kiwanis Club has been serving the community since 1960. In that time, Kiwanis has increased the success of its Peanut Day campaign to the point of being second in the world in total collections for five years in a row.
Causes supported by the Kiwanis include St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly, Palatine Township Home + Aid Child Care and Senior Centers, PHD, the On Our Own Club of Palatine High School, Northeast Palatine Resource Network, Countryside Center and many others. The club also sponsors a Christmas Party and provides Thanksgiving meals for disadvantaged families.
