Grayslake soccer players support race for autism
Submitted by Grayslake Community High School District 127
For the fourth consecutive year, Grayslake Central’s Soccer Program ran the 5K Rally for Autism Race to support a great cause. This year the event took place on Aug. 11 at Independence Grove. The boys learned a lot about giving back to the community and they all did it together as a team. The student-athletes and coaches supported one another and more importantly supported anybody who was affected by autism by registering/running for the race. The team cohesiveness was outstanding and the team is on its way to become a family. There were over 600 runners this year in the event.
The Grayslake Central Team had a few players and a coach this year that placed in the race, which the program is very proud about:
In the 1- to 14-year-old age group, the Grayslake Central Team took first, second and third place:
Ÿ First place: Jack Battaglia, time 20:15
Ÿ Second place: Ben Sizelove, time 20:39
Ÿ Third place: Joey Mudd, time 21:06
In the 15- to 19-year-old age group, the Grayslake Central Team took first and third place:
Ÿ First place: Isaac Longenecker, time 18:04
Ÿ Third place: John Moroney, time 18:31
In the 25- to 29-year-old age group, a Central coach placed second:
Ÿ Second place: Tom Hamilton, time 21:47
Congratulations to all of the student-athletes and coaches that participated in this worthwhile event.
