Naperville Area Humane Society promoting cat adoptions

Naperville Area Humane Society is having a Feline Frenzy adoption promotion Aug. 30 to Sept. 10.

During Feline Frenzy, an approved adopter can take home an adult cat (6 months and older) for just $5 or a kitten (2 to 5 months) for $75.

“Summer is an exceptionally difficult time for shelters. There are literally thousands of cats and kittens needing homes, and many organizations such as ours have very limited space,” said Michelle Lenz, the humane society's animal care manager.

“We have an adoption room full of kittens, plus many more in our foster homes and on our waiting list. We have no doubt that the current economy has affected our adoptions, but hopefully Feline Frenzy will encourage those thinking about adopting a cat or kitten to actually pursue it.

“Adult cats are often overlooked by visitors if there are kittens available,” Lenz added.

“One of the great things about adult cats is that their personalities are already formed. They can be a great addition to a family, and they'll thank you every day for the new life they've been given.”

At the humane society, all adult cats and kittens have received an initial vet exam, age-appropriate vaccinations and a microchip; they also have been tested for FeLV/FIV and are spayed or neutered before going home.

Naperville Area Humane Society is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1979 to develop and implement animal welfare programs and services within Naperville and the surrounding area.

Its goal is to protect animals and to prevent animal suffering by providing shelter and adoption programs for homeless animals, as well as education programs.
