Pooch Parade in Deerfield to raise funds for animal shelter

Orphans of the Storm animal shelter will host its sixth annual Pooch Parade at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Jaycee Memorial Park, in Deerfield.

The two-mile charity dog walk is the animal shelter’s summer fundraiser. Adopters and supporters are invited to come out with their dogs and walk in support of the shelter’s life saving mission. The entrance fee is a $20 donation per dog.

Walkers may also print out a pledge sheet at the Orphans of the Storm website, orphansofthestorm.org, to collect pledges. The more pledges collected, the more prizes each walker earns. As incentive for walkers to raise pledges, prizes include AMC movie tickets, Six Flag’s passes, Orphans signature items and more.

Orphans of the Storm animal shelter, in Riverwoods, has been serving northeast Illinois since 1928. The shelter takes in, cares for and finds good and loving adoptive homes for thousands of stray and abandoned dogs and cats each year.
