Luxury pet resort to open in Buffalo Grove
Buffalo Grove trustees this week voted to allow the Barkington Palace, an upscale pet resort, to open at 300 Lexington Drive. Trustees paved the way for approval by adding the designation pet resort as a special use to the industrial district.
The pet resort would include overnight boarding of animals (cats and dogs), play areas, grooming services, veterinary care and limited retail sales. There will be no outdoor activities.
“We are bringing to the community of Buffalo Grove the finest pet care in the region,” said Renne Sclafani, who is opening the facility with her business partner Linda Webster. Sclafani said the facility will offer luxury pet boarding, quality day care and a clean, fun and safe state-of-the-art dog park.
She said the capacity of the 14,000-square-foot facility will be 120 dogs, 10 cats and 20 other small animals.
“We would like to offer a home away from home for our clients,” she said.
Renee’s husband Joe told the board that the issues of sound, odor and waste have been addressed with the plan commission, which recommended approval by a unanimous vote.
He noted as well that the facility has changed its location to accommodate the village, moving from the originally proposed multi-tenant location at 1322 Barclay Blvd. to a single-tenant one.
Trustee Jeffrey Berman thanked the petitioners for their flexibility throughout the process.”I think the end product shows both your commitment to doing it right and the hard work that our plan commission did.”
