Cops: Man fired rifle near Hanover Park home without license

A 19-year-old Hanover Park man was arrested Tuesday night after firing a rifle in his backyard without a license, according to police.

Officers responded to a report of a man who fired a rifle to the back of the residence on the 1400 block of Indian Hilla Avenue at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and found Cameron Townsend in the front of the house, police said.

Police said Townsend was attempting to hide the semiautomatic rifle under a car in his driveway as officers were pulling up.

Officers checking the residence also found spent shell casings from the rifle, police said.

Townsend was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card, possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card and resisting arrest, according to police.

He was taken to bond court Wednesday and is being held on $100,000 bail.
