Health care law will cost us dearly

In its ruling on Obamacare, the Supreme Court made it official: It is bad, wrong, and even unconstitutional for the federal government to coerce its citizens, through fine or penalty, into doing something they do not want to do — unless they call it a tax. Never, in its 222-year history, has the Supreme Court made such a mockery of the rule of law. It would be laughable were the consequences of this ruling not so dire.

Health care used to be so expensive the “Great Society” passed Medicare in 1965 — and health care costs shot up across the board like a Fourth of July rocket because suddenly everyone was free to dip into the bottomless federal trough. It also ushered in a new era of fraud so that now Medicare cheating is a billion-dollar-a-year industry. If you think Obamacare will defy history, you’re probably 12 years old.

Obamacare originally was projected to cost a mere $1 trillion. That estimate has since risen to $1.5 trillion, and the law hasn’t even been fully implemented yet. When was the last time a federal spending program came in under budget? Federal spending programs always cost more than their advocates claim they will cost.

As Nancy Pelosi infamously said during congressional debate over Obamacare, let’s pass the law, then we’ll find out what’s in it. And who will tell us what’s in it? Nonelected, unaccountable, nameless, faceless bureaucrats interpreting the thousands of pages of the law any way they please.
