Des Plaines police to host open house Aug. 7

The Des Plaines Police Department will be acknowledging National Night Out by hosting an Open House from 5:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the police station, 1418 Miner Street. Members of the police department invite and encourage the community to attend.

The event will include a display of police vehicles, presentations, pedal car rides, grilled hot dogs and tours of the police station. A variety of educational/safety materials will be available.

According to Des Plaines Police Officer Colin Johnson, who is spearheading National Night Out efforts, “National Night Out was initiated as a means of heightening crime and drug prevention awareness and support. On a local level we are hoping to create neighborhood spirit and form partnerships between the community and the police department.”

“We are hoping that the community will visit our National Night Out Open House and take this opportunity to acquaint themselves with the Des Plaines Police Department. We are here to serve the residents of Des Plaines and the evening’s planned events will be a positive means of getting to know the men and women of the police department,” Johnson said.
