Cougars fall 8-1 at Beloit

Despite an early lead, the Kane County Cougars fell 8-1 to the host Beloit Snappers on Friday night at Pohlman Field as the Snappers grabbed 3 wins in a four-game series.

Jack Lopez helped the Cougars (54-56, 20-20) get off to a 1-0 lead in the first as he doubled with one out and scored on a two-out single from Jorge Bonifacio.

Matt Tomshaw (3-2) settled down from there as he only allowed 1 more hit over his remaining 6 innings while retiring the last 11 batters he faced, including 3 straight strikeouts in the seventh.

Beloit (58-52, 19-21) quickly tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first. Nate Roberts picked up a leadoff single and moved to third on a hit from Eddie Rosario. Miguel Sano’s single brought home Roberts to even the score.

Beloit grabbed the lead for good in the second as Stephen Wickens doubled and scored on a single by Jairo Rodriguez.

Aaron Brooks (9-10) lasted 5 innings and gave up 1 more run, coming in the fifth as Sano singled JD Williams home, putting Beloit up by a pair.

Malcom Culver coughed up 5 runs in the seventh as the Snappers put the game away.

Rosario’s RBI single drew home Roberts. Drew Leachman singled a man home while Wickens cracked a 2-run double in front of another RBI single from Rodriguez to cap the scoring.
