Graduation from the Fashion Institute of Technology represented two achievements for Yecca Zeng of Libertyville. She was honored with a Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence from the State University of New York system, of which FIT is a college, and she received a BFA in Fashion Design.
The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence was created by SUNY to recognize students who have best demonstrated and been recognized for the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, and/or career achievement.
This year, SUNY honored 282 students from 64 campuses at a ceremony in Albany, N.Y. Recipients have an overall grade-point average of more than 3.7 and records of significant contributions to their campuses and communities.
Each recipient received a framed certificate and medallion, worn at commencement. For more information on commencement, visit www.fitnyc.edu/commencement.
“I have never seen more curious, alive, passionate, and motivated students than the students at FIT, and Yecca Zeng is truly outstanding among them,” said Dr. Joyce F. Brown, president of FIT.
Selected as a Presidential Scholar, Zeng maintained a GPA of 3.77 and was the recipient of three scholarships and the 2010 Award for Outstanding Design in Draping VIII Specialization, AAS Term Garment.
Her many leadership roles included serving as vice president of the Intimate Apparel Club; student ambassador; contributing writer for the FIT newspaper, W27; and as a peer tutor in the FIT Writing Studio, through which she was invited to present at national conferences on peer tutoring.
