ECC Arts Center announces new season

Tickets for the Elgin Community College Arts Center’s 2012-2013 season will go on sale today. Performers for the upcoming season include comedian Robert Klein, vocalists Mavis Staples and Victor Wooten, the a cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, productions by the American Place Theatre, The Improvised Shakespeare Company and more.

Ÿ The season kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 29, with “The Things They Carried,” a production based on the book by Tim O’Brien. The show examines the issues of war, with a focus on O’Brien’s own experiences serving in Vietnam.

Ÿ Grammy Award-winner Victor Wooten presents a mix of jazz, pop, soul and world music selections on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Ÿ “LEO” premieres on Friday Oct. 26. “LEO” is an acrobatic show, featuring a man looking at his dreams through physical feats.

Ÿ Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award-winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Mavis Staples headlines on Saturday, Nov. 17.

Ÿ Stand-up comedian Robert Klein brings his own brand of comedy to the center’s stage on Saturday, Feb. 9.

Ÿ Grammy Award-winning a cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo takes to the stage on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Ÿ The Improvised Shakespeare Company gives audiences its own comical and improvised take on the works of William Shakespeare on Saturday, March 16.

Ÿ Actor Tim Piper portrays legendary musician and Beatles member John Lennon in “Just Imagine” on Saturday, April 6. The production looks at Lennon’s life, from his childhood to worldwide fame.
