Enjoy free concerts, movies this week in Elgin

Submitted by City of Elgin

The city of Elgin will continue to offer free activities for the family this summer with the “Concerts in the Park” and “Movies in the Park” series.

On July 31, He Said, She Said will perform. Playing classic rock gems like The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run” to dance party hits like Dee-Lites “Groove is in the Heart” and Pink’s “So What,” He Said She Said shows can best be described as rock solid pandemonium, designed to make you kick up your feet and party.

The free concert will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at the Wing Park band shell, 1000 Wing St. on Elgin’s west side. The next concert in the series will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, with the U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America.

In August, enjoy a movie under the stars with all your friends and family with “Movies in the Park.” Prior to the movie showing, kids can enjoy activities based around the movie theme, refreshments sold by local nonprofits, and $2 train rides on the Elgin Express. Bring a blanket and bug spray.

On Thursday, Aug. 2, the movie “Tangled” will be shown from 7 to 11 p.m. in Festival Park, off Prairie Street and South Grove Avenue in Elgin. The magically long-haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is.

On Tuesday, Aug. 7, the movie will be “Tintin” from 7 to 11 p.m. in Festival Park, off Prairie Street and South Grove Avenue in Elgin. Intrepid reporter Tintin and Captain Haddock set off on a treasure hunt for a sunken ship commanded by Haddock’s ancestor.
