Romney’s success is an asset

I was confused by Eugene Robinson’s article, “Amassing wealth is legal, but is it good for politics?”

Why does he consider Romney’s business success and subsequent wealth to be a political liability? Was wealth a problem for past presidents such as Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy or Lyndon B. Johnson?

No. In fact, Romney’s obvious success is an asset and that is why Robinson is trying to twist his wealth into a class warfare issue. But, any voter with a memory will know that many of our presidents have been wealthy.

Our first president, George Washington, had a net worth that was 2 percent of the U.S. budget in 1789. Americans embrace success.
