Everyone is Irish at the 13th Annual Arlington Heights’ Irish Fest at the Arlington Heights Historical Museum and Heritage Gallery, 110 W. Fremont St., Arlington Heights. Music and dance performances, food, children’s activities and more are featured. Performers include The Dooley Brothers, the bagpipes and drums of the Emerald Society and more. Here’s the RUB in Vernon Hills: a new restaurant — Real Urban Barbecue at 1260 S. Milwaukee Ave., Suite 100. Grand opening festivities take place this wekend with an eating challenge for high schoolers on Sunday: The Hungry Home-wrecker throwback sandwich — a pound and a half of andouille sausage, two-pounds of pulled pork, hot sauce, a pint of coleslaw and six-ounces of RUB’s brain buster pickles. The GWN Dragon Boat company and the Windy City Dragons dragon boat racing team host the first Chicago International Dragon Boat Festival at Lake Arlington, 2301 N. Windsor Drive, Arlington Heights. Dragon boats are 40-foot, human-powered canoes, decorated with ornate Chinese dragon heads. Led by the beat of a drum, teams of synchronized paddlers, one drummer and one steer-person race the canoes. Admission is free for spectators. Bursting onto the scene during the heady days of the British Invasion, ’60s pop group the Zombies achieved international success with singles such as “She’s Not There” and “Time of the Season.” The band’s co-founders and principal songwriters, Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone, have reunited and released a new album, “Breathe Out, Breathe In.” They will perform in the suburbs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Viper Alley, 275 Parkway Drive, Lincolnshire.
