Send in nominations for annual 'Senior of the Year'

LOMBARD, Illinois—Nominations are being sought for the Village of Lombard's annual “Senior of the Year” award.

The award, in its seventh year, aims to celebrate the accomplishments of seniors in the community. Awards will be presented at the Village's Senior Fair, to be held October 3.

The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding seniors who have “contributed to their community,” stated William “Bill” Mueller, Lombard Village President. “We are asking residents to show their appreciation and honor their favorite senior citizen by submitting their name, a brief description of why he or she is being nominated and a short bio about the person,” Mueller added. The award was instituted by Mueller and the Village's Community Relations Committee.

Nominees must have a Lombard mailing address and be 65 years of age or older. Nominations must include a brief statement, 50 words or less, on why the senior should be considered for this award, as well as a short biography of the person. The nomination deadline is September 2. All nominations must be received prior to the deadline by the Village Manager's Office. The winners will be selected by the Community Relations Committee and will receive the Village President's Award and a gift certificate to a local restaurant. The “Senior of the Year” award winner will also be honored by riding in the 2013 Lilac Parade.

Nominations may be sent to: Village of Lombard, Village Manager's Office, Attention: “Senior of the Year” Award, 255 E. Wilson, Lombard, IL, 60148. Email nominations will be accepted at kottj@villageoflombard.org.
