Missed point about Church doctrine

This is in response to Walter Naaf’s letter of July 11 in which he complained about the bishops’ ad and suggested that the Catholic Church wants everyone to adhere to its doctrine. You missed the point entirely. The Church does not want anyone outside the Church to accept its doctrine. However, it should not be penalized for observing its own doctrine.

As a reminder, the First Amendment of the Constitution states, ”Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” And, by the way, those faith-based initiatives about which you also complained provide humanitarian services with care and compassion and at a lower cost than government agencies.
