Running club to host Sunset Races in Geneva

The Fox River Trail Runners will host the 15th annual Summer Sunset Races Wednesday, July 25, at Geneva Middle School South, 1415 Viking Drive, Geneva. The event benefits the club’s Youth Scholarship Fund.

There are four races for the whole family:

타 The Jamie LaForce Youth Mile starts at 6:15 p.m. for ages 12 and younger;

타 Junior Jog, 400 meters, is at 6:30 p.m. for ages 9 and younger;

타 Toddler Trot, 100 meters, begins at 6:45 p.m. for ages 5 and younger’

타 The 5K begins at 7:15 p.m. for all ages.

Online registration for the best discount is available at www.frtr.org until Monday, July 23. Race day registration is from 5:30 p.m. until 20 minutes before race time. The traditional tie-dyed commemorative race shirt is guaranteed to all preregistered registrants and, while supplies lasts, for race day registrants.

Race fees are $27 for the 5K before July 23 and $30 on race day. Youth Mile is $13, Junior Jog $7 and Toddler Trot $5. Fox River Trail Runners and Batavia Accelerator members who register in advance receive a $5 discount off the 5K entry fee.

The Summer Sunset is a July tradition. The 5K race is a fast and flat certified course winding through the Peck Farm Park in Geneva.

The 5K awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female winners, as well as age group winners.

The Youth Mile, ages 12 and younger, awards will be presented to the first five winners their age groups.

Tom LaForce will serve as the official starter for the Jamie LaForce Youth Mile. The race is named in honor of Jamie LaForce, an active charity runner and member of the Fox River Trail Runners who passed away in 2001 from a series of rare brain lesions.
