Polo club’s tourney benefits Batavia groups

Submitted by Batavia Arts Council

Blackberry Polo Club will host a benefit for Batavia Main Street (Shakespeare on Clark) and Batavia Arts Council from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 22. The day’s events include the polo match, rides with the Lake Run Farm Clydesdales, and music by the Andrew Johnson trio.

Players from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Lake Forest, Barrington Hills, and local suburbs will vie for the Tom Wigdahl Memorial Trophy.

Tom Wigdahl was a player from Bartlett who died playing polo in Toronto in August of 1999, and his many friends and former teammates chose to honor him in this way. Blackberry has hosted this tournament since 2000.

Groups attending are encouraged to enter the Tailgate Contest with the theme of “All the World’s a Stage.” Prizes are awarded for best interpretation of the theme through food, drink and décor. Many more prizes are available in the raffle held throughout the day.

Tickets for the match are $30 per carload or $10 individual when purchased in advance; $40 and $15 at the gate. Tickets are available at All Dressed Up Costumes, Batavia Main Street, Foltos Tonsorial Parlor, Special Occasions on the Avenue, and All Occasions Accessories.

Blackberry Polo Club is on Bliss Road, half-mile south of Main Street, Batavia.
