Elgin Children’s Chorus to hold auditions
Submitted by Elgin Children’s Chorus
Did you know that children who sing in choruses get significantly better grades, are better team players and have more advanced social skills? Consider signing up for an audition with the Elgin Children’s Chorus.
The group will hold auditions for boys and girls ages 7 to 16 (with unchanged voices) who love to sing. The ability to read music is not required, however, the ability to match pitch is evaluated.
Its mission is to cultivate musical, artistic, and emotional growth. Members develop music reading skills, critical listening abilities, and vocal skills. Singers also acquire team-building skills, discipline, and self-confidence.
Members are from 19 cities (53 schools) throughout the Fox Valley community. Membership is open to all area children, regardless of race, gender, religion or disability.
The season runs from September to May, with rehearsals Monday evenings at the Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive in Elgin. Unless they are ill, choristers are expected to attend all rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances, committing themselves to the entire season’s schedule.
It is a tuition-based, nonprofit organization. Cost of tuition is $390, plus a music/folder usage fee, and dress rehearsal polo and concert uniform. Partial need-based scholarships are available on request.
Audition times are available from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, and 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, July 23. To schedule an audition, call (847) 931-SING (7464). For details, visit elginchildrenschorus.org.
