Barrington’s St. Matthew Lutheran welcomes new pastor
The Rev. Marc Cohen was installed on Saturday, June 30, as the new pastor at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Barrington.
Cohen was born in Indianapolis, Ind. His family lived in Mexico City, Mexico, for three years during his grade school years. He remembers those years as eye-opening and educational. Cohen graduated from William Henry Harrison High School in West Lafayette, Ind., where he met Cheryl, whom he would later marry.
Cohen studied psychology and religion at St. Olaf in Northfield, Minn. After graduation, he worked as a computer consultant and technician. While serving in Panama City, Panama, on a one-year mission placement, Marc and Cheryl made the decision that he would enter the seminary upon their return. It was during the four year seminary experience that the Cohens were blessed with their two children, Jacob and Mikayla.
Cohen graduated Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, with a master of divinity degree in 2010, and was called to SonRise Lutheran Church in Avon, Minn. While at SonRise, Cohen became president of the Avon, Minn., Chamber of Commerce and worked to encourage cooperation between his congregation and the community.
Cohen is looking forward to working with his new congregation and the community to share Christ’s love with everyone.
