God’s word still mandatory today

In response to your July 2 editorial, I understand your opinion that individuals have differing preferences which lead to presumed entitlements for personal choices. You liken today’s changes to those which were faced by earlier generations, when each was resolved according to mores of those times.

Even so, in past generations, it is my understanding that there was regard for a value system in our nation, not as evident today. The Bible was a guiding influence during our nation’s founding, and throughout succeeding decades. Today, it appears that the scriptures have been shelved as no longer an applicable standard for our lifestyles.

The fact remains, however, that the Bible is God’s authoritative word for all people of all time. Its truth is established by the fact that it was written by about 40 scribes over a period of some 1,600 years, yet it has a common theme. God, therefore, has to be the divine author who inspired it.

I could site selective scriptures which address the issues facing today’s society. I will simply affirm that God originally created humankind, and because of that, we are all accountable to him. This premise does not please many of your readers, but it is a standing affirmation throughout God’s eternal purpose. Instead of honoring the precepts of the God who created us, our society is now acting existentially for presumed civil rights — not fully regarding that there are inherent values which are “right” and others which are “wrong.” God’s moral precepts never change. They are as mandatory today as they were when they were written.

I encourage your readers, and yourselves, to revisit God’s Word. Check especially the books of John (concerning our relationship to God) and

Romans (concerning righteous lifestyles).
