Motorcyclist injured in crash near Hampshire

All lanes of the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway near Hampshire had to be shut down Friday morning to allow a helicopter land so an injured motorcyclist could be transported to a hospital.

The crash occurred just before 10 a.m. near the Marengo-Hampshire toll plaza on I-90. A car stopped abruptly, causing the motorcyclist to adjust his position, lose control and hit the road and side wall barrier, according to Illinois State Police.

At the time, authorities didn’t know the extent of the motorcyclist’s injuries but were concerned because he struck the pavement so hard. It was later discovered he had a broken arm, police said.

No other injuries were reported.
