Diabetes education class offered in Barrington

Learn how to thrive — not simply survive — with diabetes.

The Barrington Area Council on Aging, in partnership with AgeOptions and The Garlands of Barrington, will offer “Take Charge of Your Diabetes” a health education class for adults 55 and over.

The six-week class will be held 1-3:30 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 27-Oct. 8, at The Garlands of Barrington.

The program uses the Stanford University Patient Education Research Center’s Diabetes Self-Management Program which has proved successful for diabetes management. Topics covered in the six-week class will include decision-making and problem-solving skills; exercise, managing fatigue, managing pain and stress, nutrition and communications. Medication and treatment decisions will also be discussed.

This program is made possible through funding from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The program is free; for more information or to register, call Diane in Social Services at BACOA at (847) 381-5030.

The Barrington Area Council on Aging Inc., is a private, not-for-profit organization. Its mission is to serve seniors, family caregivers and the community. Visit www.bacoa.org.
