Fire departments battle brush fire in Carpentersville
Firefighters from seven departments helped battle a Tuesday afternoon brush fire in Carpentersville's Helm Woods Forest Preserve.
The fire burned through a large area of brush, but did not damage any structures or cause any injuries, according to fire officials.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze quickly when they arrived at about 3:30 p.m., and although fire officials were concerned of a nearby neighborhood, the flames were stopped about a quarter-mile from houses just south of Helm Road. The blaze covered an area of about 600 by 600 yards, which was mostly brush, said Carpentersville and Countryside Fire District Lt. Brian Berry.
Fire crews from Algonquin, West Dundee, East Dundee, Hoffman Estates, Rutland-Dundee and Barrington responded to the call, Berry said.
Fire departments cleared the scene at 5:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Tuesday night.
