Prospect Hts enforces lawn sprinkling restrictions

Mayor Nick Helmer has announced that the city of Prospect Heights will immediately begin enforcing the Lawn Sprinkling Restriction Ordinance (4-8D-2), due to drought conditions. The restriction applies only to those residents on the city water system.

The Lawn Sprinkling Restriction Ordinance requires that from May 15 through Sept. 15, of each year, it shall be unlawful for any person to use water for the sprinkling or irrigation of lawns or gardens except between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Water users with even-numbered addresses shall engage in outdoor use of water on even-numbered calendar days; and water users with odd-numbered addresses shall engage in outdoor use of water on odd-numbered calendar days.

The city reserves the right to further limit or suspend the use of water for the sprinkling or irrigation of lawns and gardens or for any other special purposes whenever the City Council shall determine that the public exigencies require further restrictions on outdoor water use.

Those residents whose properties are on water wells are asked to reduce unnecessary water usage in an effort to conserve water through the duration of the drought conditions.
