Pingree Grove holds Independence Day celebration

Pingree Grove’s annual Independence Day celebration will start with a parade featuring more than 30 entries at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 7 on Wester Boulevard and Alta Vista and continuing down Wester to the charter school.

Test your pitching arm at the Dunk Tank featuring local officials; two tickets for three balls. The tentative schedule will be: Police Chief Carol Lusskey at 5 p.m.; village trustee Steve Weidmeyer at 5:30 p.m.; Public Works Manager Pat Doherty at 6 p.m.; police officer Jeff Pokorney at 6:30 p.m.; village trustee Bob Spieker at 7 p.m. and a fire department official at 7:30 p.m.

There also will be carnival games, raffles, food vendors, face painting, a petting zoo and more. There will be a $5 wristband for unlimited access on the Big Slide. Or stop by the petting zoo; there will be animal feed available for a fee. A DJ will provide music throughout the event.

The food vendor booths will open at 4 p.m. and include Palazzolos with pizza slices, beef sandwiches, fried Oreos; Jamba Juice with smoothies; Cream King with ice cream novelties; Cruisin’s with broasted chicken, pulled pork sandwiches, roasted corn on the cob; Ana’s Cakes & Bakery with assorted baked goods; and Little League concessions of hot dogs, brats, soda, water, Gatorade, hot pretzels, nachos and cheese, popcorn, candy, frozen Icees, Slushy.

The Independence Market will feature more than 40 vendors. It will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Vendors include: Gourmet Kernel; Maria Featherly Photography providing the opportunity to create a keepsake moment by having a “patriotic” picture taken with friends/family; lots of craft vendors selling an array of handmade items, as well as representatives from direct sales companies including Tupperware, Thirty-One, Tastefully Simple, Scentsy, Premier Designs, Lia Sophia, Miche Bags, and more.

At 9:30 p.m., the national anthem will be performed by professional singer and Pingree Grove resident Rhianna Godfrey. It will be followed by the fireworks show in and around the baseball fields on Wester Boulevard. For information, visit villageofpingreegrove.org.
