Chicago Master Singers to hold auditions in Palatine

Vocal auditions for the 2012-2013 season of Chicago Master Singers will be held on the evenings of Aug. 9, 14, 16 and 21 in Palatine.

Chicago Master Singers, under the direction of Alan Heatherington, is a 130-voice choral ensemble featuring accomplished singers from Chicago and suburban communities. The chorus has performed great choral masterworks in collaboration with professional soloists and orchestras since 1979, and singers have the opportunity to participate in performance tours in Europe every other summer.

Dedicated singers are invited to request an audition appointment by email to cms.information@gmail.com or by leaving a message at the organization’s toll-free number, (877) 825-5267. A chorus member will respond to answer questions and schedule an audition time.

At the auditions, singers are encouraged to sing a prepared piece of their choice, and bring three copies of the music. Auditioners without a prepared piece will be asked to sing a familiar song provided at the audition. A pianist will be provided for accompaniment. Auditioners will also be asked to vocalize and sight-read an unfamiliar piece. Members pay dues of $100 per year and purchase their own music.

Chicago Master Singers rehearsals are on Monday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m. in Palatine beginning Aug. 28, and also on Tuesdays and Thursdays of concert weeks.

Performances in November, December and April, with the Ars Viva Orchestra, will take place in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at the Society of the Divine Word in Techny (near Northbrook). The repertoire will include works by Beethoven, Vaughan Williams and other great choral composers. The May performances of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 (“Resurrection”) with the Lake Forest Symphony will be in the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts, College of Lake County, in Grayslake. Details about the season can be found at www.chicagomastersingers.org.
