White Sox not getting swept up in results
Outside of the Kevin Youkilis addition, White Sox manager Robin Ventura hasn’t gotten overly excited about many things this season.
That includes this little statistical nugget: The Sox are the only team in baseball that has not been swept this year.
“We are just playing, and we are not concerned with setting any records,” Ventura said. “We are just playing. We are worried more about winning games than we are about not being swept.”
Before hosting the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night, the White Sox swept a three-game series against Texas. It was the first time the Rangers were swept in a three- or four-game series since June of last season.
“They played real good baseball the three days here, and we just didn’t score enough runs, and they did,” Texas manager Ron Washington said of the Sox. “They’re playing well and they’re swinging the bats well, and they’ve certainly always had good pitching.”
Danks update:Injured starting pitcher John Danks hasn#146;t been throwing at all lately, but he has found a way to stay in relatively good shape.#147;I#146;ve been in the pool a lot lately, just trying to keep the other muscles firing and working,#148; Danks said. #147;I want to be ready when everything#146;s healed up. I#146;m just trying to stay active.#148;Danks has been on the disabled list since May 20 with a strained left shoulder. He#146;s not even close to returning.#147;I feel like the pool might be a baby step into throwing,#148; he said. #147;It#146;s a little easier on the arm, but at the same time it keeps everything working. I#146;m getting the work in I need to in that motion.#147;I don#146;t know exactly what the plan is, but as soon as I#146;m ready to do something we#146;re going to do it. I#146;m tired of where we#146;re at, so we want to do it as soon as possible.#148;Waiver claim:With so many Class AAA Charlotte relief pitchers on the White Sox#146; roster #151; Deunte Heath, Leyson Septimo, Brian Omogrosso and the injured Brian Bruney (hamstring) #151; the Knights are in need of some new arms. They got one Friday when the White Sox claimed left-hander Daniel Moskos off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Moskos was the No. 4 overall draft pick in 2007.He pitched in 31 games with Pittsburgh last season and was 1-1 with a 2.96 ERA.This year Moskos was 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 14 appearances with AAA Indianapolis. He was assigned to Charlotte. As for the White Sox#146; bullpen, there is veteran Matt Thornton and six rookies. As they made their way to the pen Friday, Thornton led the group like a mother duck, with the young relievers following behind in a line.Humber update:In his second rehab start for AAA Charlotte, Philip Humber pitched 4 innings against Norfolk on Friday night and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. That was a much better showing for Humber than his first start for Charlotte, when he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.Humber is on the disabled list with a right-elbow flexor strain.
