Palatine emergency preparedness classes to start

Do you know the correct way to put out a small fire? Check an individual for shock? Turn off the utilities in your home in an emergency? The Emergency Preparedness Training course, provided free by the village of Palatine, will teach you how to prepare for any emergency, and protect yourself and your family should one occur.

The special “boot camp” session will be held in five sessions instead of the usual nine. All classes will be held in the Emergency Operations Center, at village hall, 200 E. Wood Street, Palatine, except for Fire Safety which is held at Palatine Fire Station #84, 22 W. Illinois St.

Classes are:

Friday, July 13: 6-10 p.m., preparedness/psychology of terrorism

Saturday, July 14: 8 a.m.-4 p.m., organization/medical ops 1/ search and rescue

Friday, July 20: 6-10 p.m., fire safety/terrorism at Fire Department Station #84

Saturday, July 21: 8 a.m.-4 p.m., medical ops 2/review/exercise

A final orientation class at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, will be offered to those who wish to take the optional advanced training which will qualify them to become an active part of Palatine’s response capability.

Remember to tune to 1660 AM, the village of Palatine’s Emergency Advisory Radio Station, for local weather reports, advisories and announcements affecting the Palatine area. In the event of an emergency, the station will broadcast essential up-to-the-minute reports, alerts and instructions.
