Tiger Sharks swim team enjoy a successful summer
The Palatine Park District Tiger Sharks, an affiliate of the Palatine Park District, is a USA Swimming year round competitive swim team offering high quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities. The goal of the team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability.
It has already been an exciting summer season for the Tiger Sharks. The weekend of June 23 and 24, the Tiger Sharks travelled to Fishers, Indiana to participate in a meet at Fishers High School. The team finished in 3rd place out of the 35 teams who competed that weekend. Teams at the meet represented five different states. At the meet, Tiger Shark Sean Rodney was the 13-14 boys high point champ, and Tiger Shark Sarah Miles was the 11-12 high point third place finisher. Many other team members finished in the top ten in their age groups, and the hard work of all swimmers contributed to the successful third place team finish.
On June 29, former PPD swimmer Varun Shivakumar represented PPD at Olympic Trials. Varun stopped by the pool a few weeks ago for a PPD cap which he wore when he participated in the 200 Backstroke at the Trials.
On June 30, the team participated in the Palatine Parade, carrying a huge American Flag. The team was decked out with hair dye and patriotic t-shirts as they marched through the streets of Palatine.
On July 6 to 8, the Tiger Sharks will be hosting the PPD Summer Splash Swim meet. Thirteen teams with over 900 swimmers will be in attendance, with one team travelling from Minnesota.
The team is constantly growing and training young swimmers to maintain a well-rounded competitive swim team. The coaches are all members of the American Swim Coaches Association with access to comprehensive training and certifications that help ensure a quality swim program is available to all participants. On August 8th from 8am to 9am and on August 9th from 5pm to 6pm, the Tiger Sharks will be holding tryouts for the upcoming indoor season and Early Bird Registration for the team will take place on August 20th from 6pm to 8pm.
