Bible believers must show compassion

Reading the letter from Mr. Gorden on June 20 regarding gay people, I became even more intolerant of the people who profess to be so Christian and believers in God. Not being a very religious person myself and not a regular churchgoer, I just wonder what the holier-than-thou missed in the teaching of the Bible or holy books of their faiths. If we are all created by God, do we then cast aside those that are not “one of us”? Do we not show compassion and understanding of other children of God who do not fit the mold of what “normal” is? Do we cast aside physically or mentally challenged people that make us uncomfortable? Do we turn our backs to someone in need or who doesn’t fit our idea of “in God’s image”?

The Bible fundamentalists tolerate immoral behavior every day but are too hypocritical to admit it. If gays are Mr. Gorden’s idea of being devoid of morals, he had better take a hard look at society today and the lifestyles of the “straights” first. Love and compassion comes from within ourselves, something that many lack even when they sit in a house of worship every Sunday.
