Waukegan police seek help in finding robber near Fountain Square
Waukegan Police are searching for a man who robbed a victim at gunpoint at the Fountain Square Shopping Center, authorities said Thursday.
Cmdr. Gabe Guzman said the victim was sitting in his car at the Fountain Square Shopping Center prior to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday when the offender entered his vehicle armed with a handgun.
The offender demanded the victim’s wallet before ordering the victim to drive to an ATM to withdraw money, Guzman said.
The victim drove to a nearby bank ATM and withdrew $500, and handed it over, Guzman said. The offender ordered the victim to drive to the area of 14th and Dugdale Road in North Chicago, and fled from that location, Guzman said.
The victim was not injured, Guzman said.
The offender was described as a black male in his early 20s, with a medium build, wearing a blue sweatshirt, dark pants and green baseball cap.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Waukegan Police Department at (847) 360-9000.
“It appears that this was a crime of opportunity and an isolated incident,” said Waukegan Police Chief Daniel Greathouse. “I want to remind people to be aware of their surroundings to thwart such crimes from recurring.”
