7-year-old Chicago girl killed in gang crossfire
Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says the 7-year-old girl gunned down outside her home on the city’s West Side was the innocent victim of a gang dispute.
McCarthy on Thursday said police know which gangs are involved and they expect to have their investigation wrapped up shortly.
Authorities say Heaven Sutton was outside with her mother and some friends when two gunmen fired into the crowd late Wednesday.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office says the girl was shot in the chest and died at Loyola University Medical Center. Police say a 19-year-old man is recovering after being shot in the ankle.
The gunmen ran from the scene after the shooting.
